Think Twice Before Relying on Camera Rent in Prague


Before your next shoot brings you to Prague, you might think about saving some money and find gear for rent in the city. This would make sense and help avoid paying large sums to airlines for extra luggage. The idea might work in Western countries, but not in Eastern Europe. Unfortunately East of Germany, the media market is rather small with very few rental houses.


The reason for this limited supply is simple. On a small market (Czech Republic) it is very hard to make a living, when there is little or no demand. The domestic demand here in the Czech Republic is negligible as there are only few private video studios and very few free-lancers available. Rental houses are not up to date,​ their offerings are poor and the camera kits are rather battered. Emergency after hours support almost non-existent. Rental house employees are badly payed and uninterested. 


This situation led Stills & Films to buy everything we need for our shoots, from cameras through audio and grips. For the peace of mind, we do not rely on local rental houses. The benefits for us and our clients are obvious:  we always have professionally maintained and reliable camera gear.
